Mohammad Azharuddin: Comparing Virat and Sachin Tendulkar is Difficult

Mohammad Azharuddin, former skipper in team India, has talked about the comparisons between all-rounder Sachin Tendulkar and current team India’s Captain Virat Kohli. When addressing the futulity of comparing the players from two different eras, he backed the 28-year-old in-form captain to break the batting records of Tendulkar.

The stylish-Hyderabadi asserted at Mind Rocks 2017 event in Bhopal, “Virat is an incredible player but comparing him to Tendulkar is difficult. Conditions and bowling attacks were different at the time of Sachin. Before him, challenges were different for Sunil Gavaskar. If Kohli stays fit, keeps up with it, and stays consistent, he can break any record. But Kohli still has to travel a lot.”

The elegant batsman further added, “Comparing both players is the way too difficult. Tendulkar was the best player and Kohli is a special batsman. There are many records in Sachin’s account. Kohli might hopefully beat them. You need to be consistent. Nothing is impossible in the world of cricket. Now, Kohli is young but actions slow down with age. But his fitness level is different.”

His Victory

Kohli smashed consistent centuries in the 4th and 5th matches during the recent ODI series to draw level with the tally of tons of Ricky Ponting, a legendary Australian player. With 49 centuries, Tendulkar has crossed more hundreds in 50-over ODI format than Delhi-based run machine.

Let’s discuss the matter

Kohli is widely known as one of the excellent batsmen in run chasing. He amassed 19 centuries by playing 110 matches and batted second in one-day format. On the other side, Sachin scored just 17 centuries in 236 matches. These days, pitches have been more batting-friendly. Modern bowlers found it hard to meet the strict standards by various legendary predecessors. The record in white-ball cricket of Kohli seems too high to imagine.

Kohli has got the average of 55.75 out of other batsmen with 2000 ODI runs. He is notably the best in 50-over format. In ICC’s ODI rankings, he has 887 rating points. He is such a ruthless right-handed batsman who matched the benchmark set by Sachin Tendulkar. The comparisons between both iconic batsmen shouldn’t be abating.

India’s Take on Australia

For 5-match series versus Australia, India’s take on home beginning is that the match will be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Kohli is just one more century behind Ponting’s tons.

The only blot in his career is probably the absence of major scores in the finals of ODI tournaments played between several teams. He must go on to fix that in the next ICC events. He must make legit claim to be the best ever batsman in ODI format. If he keeps this form in future, he should also beat Sachin’s record of centuries.
