Simon Doull Doubts Role of Mike Hesson and Kane Williamson in T20 Format

Top commentator Simon Doull is questioning the roles of coach Mike Hesson and skipper Kane Williamson and asking for the new leadership in T20 setup, the shortest form of the game.

Former Black Cap bowler desires Martin Guptill to replace the current captain. He suggests Daniel Vettori (who coaches New Zealand in Big Bash and IPL) as a coaching candidate. According to former New Zealand bowler, New Zealand is found out constantly when pressure passes through the great sides and he believes the current outfit of T20 has a lot of ties to the test team.

Hesson has been described as a legendary coach. According to him, there are more breaks needed by him and specialist is needed in T20 side, more advanced boss.

According to Doull, Australia had only one T20 test player when seven players in Black Caps’ side. Ross Taylor, Williamson, and Tim Southee were some of the players who needed to be axed with the likes of Mark Chapman, Anton Devcich and Tim Seifert who were promoted. Colin de Grandhomme, Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner were the only test players who are regular who need to survive, according to Doull.

Doull added, “I don’t believe we are getting right selections. There were some concerns for us for a while. I would want to see Colin to bat higher but it is not a batting order, it is selection which is the issue. We should give dynamic players a chance at T20 level.”

“If Kane doesn’t open, he should not play in T20. He really has very good record opening and it is not that good at four and three. But he doesn’t need to be in T20 side and there is a lot in T20 side.”

Being a T20 opener, Williamson has average of around 38 and 22 batting somewhere else. In Tri-Series opener, he had shocker in Sydney and he scored 8 off 21 balls against the batting of Australians at No. 3.

Doull believes that Guptill was senior white ball specialist in Black Caps who would recover the responsibility and captaincy. At the same time, Coach Hesson should have chance to refresh.Doull added, “He is an excellent coach who has done a commendable job and grown into the job.”

“But he just gets very small time off, just a fraction of time for his family. So, it’s time to give him off completely in T20 and get new ideas, new coach, and new players.”

“He may need to have played the match to know it little better. Gareth Hopkins in the Northern Knights just played until recently and solely as their T20 coach. Other coaches are little older around the country and are out with T20 to touch.”

Initially, Doull chose England as a team on Tri-Series in order to beat but he was really attracted to the Australian side which has been laoded with increasing specialists.

He added, “They have got great slower balls, long batting power and variations in the guys. It’s a great T20 side and I am looking forward for Australia to upset England.”
