The exemplary T20 global star, Andre Russel keeps up with his upward trajectory in franchise match as he is assigned to lead his side Jamaica Tallahwas full time in the upcoming Caribbean Premier League season.

West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has got this assignment for the first time during the 2018 season. Jamaica Tallawahs have won the Caribbean Premier League two times.  Russell missed the last season due to a doping test infringement due to which he was banned for one year. He will take a lead from Kumar Sangakkara. In 2017, the former Sri Lanka skipper led the team to the Eliminator.

Russell said, “Honestly speaking, it’s a great feeling. I missed out due to suspension of one long year. I am now looking forward to play and to do the good job as a captain to Jamaica Tallawahs.”

Russell has been busy since he got suspended in the month of January and played the whole season for IPL’s Kolkata Knight Rider, despite the hamstring injury. The addition of Russell lent Knight Riders to the depth, with all-rounder scoring 316 runs out of 14 innings along with taking 13 wickets.

Along with Russell, roster of Tallawahs is full of leading names, along with the likes of David Miller, Ross Taylor, and Pakistan all-rounders Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi.

Russell added, “We have well balanced and good team. We have a team which is not all about names, but also about their abilities and how well they can change the situation. I really believe in T20 cricket all-rounders and I feel it is what we have. I feel we have guys who can bowl and bat and I think you have good team officially once you have 8 guys in a team who can do it.”

He was literally happy to captain a T20 all-rounder like Shahid Afridi, who has always been a regular in T20 leagues of the franchise despite being retired from international cricket.

Russell said, “It is all set to be interesting. I have already played against Shahid Af

ridi and he is a good player. We went out on a boat with each other even in Dubai after playing and we just loved being there. To be around a person like Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, and Ahmed Shehzad and other guys, it simply shows a different living of them, and how simply they are ahead of the game.

“But having Afridi in the CPL is good to have this year and not only playing over him, playing with him too, as I feel I can learn certain things from him and take it along on my journey.”

For the tournament, Russell has few of his own targets but he doesn’t want to tell it in the public. He said, “I always have my own goals which I don’t like to share in public as it seems not good to say something like I got only 10, I need 20 wickets or 30 etc. It is good to have your own goals but I don’t say it loud. “
