hennai Super Kings made a comeback in style and had a virtually high-octane encounter with Mumbai Indians thanks to the magic done by Dwayne Bravo who literally changed the game by the end and led Chennai to winning position.
Despite the fact that there are several remarkable contributions from this side, including Bravo’s epic innings, Pandya brothers also did well with sizeable knocks from Surya Kumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan. Well, there are some things that have gone unnoticed from the match.
- Markande – A Surprise Package
Kudos to Markande and his potential as he didn’t let his side down and has came out with great figures of 4-0-23-3. The leg spinner debuted just the way Murugan Ashwin did around a few years back under Dhoni and his variations helped CSK in many ways.
First of all, he took the huge wicket of Dhoni who was almost chasing the run until Bravo took it back and removed few more including Chahar and Rayudu. With his variations and control, Markande has great potential to play for his side for longer as he might keep more batsmen in shock in the next games.
- Missed Review gone wrong
Rohit Sharma’s decided not to review LBW call which was very close against Kedhar Jadhav. However, it couldn’t have cost dearly as he made right action next time when same LBW shout came against Dhoni with DRS, both from Markande. Jadhav, who was hurt earlier, came back in the end, and finished the game for CSK. Umpire couldn’t detect LBW shouts both the times and it was Sharma who decided to challenge it.
- Pollard’s Presence
Despite being one of the powerful hitters, Pollard was overlooked both with bat and ball in T20 over and over again. Recently, it crossed a new low where he couldn’t find a chance to play either way. In slog overs, Pandya brothers were sent before him and it shows how he was sandwiched between those.
Though Krunal Pandya played well with the bat, Hardik tried hard to keep the run rate high and survived with Bravo’s variations who gave a great all-round show.
- Dhoni’s under bowled bowlers
Dhoni’s love for spinner is well-known but his trio spinners bowled just five overs and Jadeja bowled only one over. Imran Tahir and Harbhajan Singh bowled only a few overs each and Tahir picked the highest scorer of MI, Ishan Kishan and has set his trademark. In two-over spell, Bhajji didn’t do wrong anything much in bowling economically, even though he didn’t pick any wicket. With the overlooked debut of Chris Wood, Dhoni must have used one of them for a few more overs, at least.
- Opening bowlers played for three overs
You wouldn’t come up more often over two bowlers when finishing powerplay overs which is a kind of marathon in IPL. But Dhoni pulled it off in the opening match of IPL 2018 with tremendous success. Shane Watson and Deepak Chahar did the honors and grabbed one wicket each and one of them took the much-needed Rohit Sharma’s wicket, as he was not ready to deal with swing.
