Over the years, the IPL has witnessed the transfer of several players across the franchises. The league is widely acclaimed for its diversity. Sachin Tendulkar (MI), Virender Sehwag (DD), Sourav Ganguly (KKR), Yuvraj Singh (KXIP), and Rahul Dravid (RCB) were some of the iconic players of their home IPL teams and they didn’t go under the auction.
But there have been a few players over a decade who haven’t played for their state in IPL. Have a look at the top 5 players who have never represented their home franchise and played up to 5 seasons.
- Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli is a Delhi-based Indian captain who is also one of only two cricketers who played for the same team in all 10 seasons, along with Harbhajan Singh. The long-term association of Kohli with RCB has witnessed its own ups and downs. Even though the team has still been looking for their maiden title, it goes without saying that Virat is a champion batsman and they are undisputed leaders. It seems that the deep association between him and RCB will not end anytime soon.
2. Harbhajan Singh
The ‘Punjab da Sher’ has been the undisputed king of the Mumbai Indians in all 10 seasons and he carried the load of spin department completely on his shoulders. He was a great utility player as he bowled on crucial overs when keeping the situation tight in middle overs and he used to swing his willow very well in death overs to score valuable runs. The core belief of making squad a family has kept Mumbai Indians and Harbhajan together. In 2010, Mumbai Indians has bought Harbhajan. Hence, it won’t be a surprise if the team tries hard to secure their veteran player.
- Dinesh Karthik
For Tamil Nadu, he has significant record in domestic cricket. But the wicket-keeper has never worn yellow CSK jersey in any of the last editions of the league. He has played with Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Lions in the past. This time, being in the scheme of things always improves the chances of getting big bid in international cricket and it may work in his favor.
- Ambati Rayudu
Ambati Rayudu is one of the most overlooked players in the league and he has done virtually everything from Mumbai Indians. Rayudu belongs to Hyderabad and ventured into Mumbai Indians in the year 2010 and he has been a great cog in the batting line up of MI since then. He has been the part of top wins for Mumbai Indians in 2013, 2015, and 2017. It goes without saying that if he plays for Mumbai this season, it would be a great surprise.
5. Kedar Jadhav
The dynamo belongs to Maharashtra but had been playing for Delhi Daredevils in the year 2010 before he moved to Kochi Tuskers Kerala and returned to Delhi in 2013. In 2016 and 2017, he played for Royal Challengers Bangalore. His home town is Pune but he never played for either Rising Pune Supergiants or Pune Warriors India.
