5 Most Popular Players Never Played for CSK

When it comes to IPL, there is hardly any moment when we overlook the mighty Chennai Super Kings. They are one of the most consistent and entertaining teams in IPL these days. After serving two years of ban, CSK is finally here with a bang.

Several world-class players like Matthew Hayden, Muttiah Muralitharan and Makhaya Ntini represented CSK side in the past. We must say CSK has some of the world-class players.

Irfan Pathan

His swing bowling is very deadly and his batting is very amazing. He was once known as the next Kapil Dev but he couldn’t meet the expectations.  He represented DD, KXIP and SRH in the previous editions and played 98 matches. In 2015, he was signed by CSK to have some balance to the team.

He sustained injury before the first match of CSK against Delhi Daredevils and he was not taken for selection for the first couple of matches. He couldn’t play IPL match due to injuries and some reasons.

  1. Akila Dananjaya

An unconventional Sri Lankan spinner known for his unique spin bowling, Akila Dananjaya can confuse the batsman with his variations, such as off-spin, googly, carom ball, leg-break, and doosra. He was signed by CSK in 2013 IPL auction. But he couldn’t break into playing XI of CSK because of spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. He was bought by Mumbai Indians in IPL 2018 auction.

  1. Andrew Tye

Varying the pace in death overs might get you some wickets in T20 cricket. Known as T20 expert, Andrew Tye is an Australian bowler who specializes in death over bowling. He has mastered the skills of bowling knuckleball. He was bought in IPL auction 2015 by 2-time champions Chennai Super Kings after his great performances in Big Bash League 2014-15.

But he was injured before the opener against DD in 8th IPL season. The bowling attack of CSK was led by Ashish Nehra and Mohit Sharma, and assisted by D.J. Bravo. Tye couldn’t make it to playing eleven in CSK as Dhoni didn’t want to make any changes in bowling lineup.

  1. Kyle Abbott

He is a South African medium pacer known for accurate swing bowling and tight lines. In 2012, he was the part of the team of KXIP as a replacement to Stuart Broad, due to his injury. But in that IPL season, he never played for Kings XI Punjab. Due to foreign players like Brendon McCullum, Dwayne Smith, Dwayne Bravo and Faf du Plessis, Abbott couldn’t make his debut for the squad.

  1. Matt Henry

He is the leading fast bowler who can bowl with nice pace. This New Zealand fast bowler can be a threat with his skiddy and quick deliveries. He was signed in 2014 season of IPL by CSK and became another Kiwi bowler signed in IPL by CSK. He was rumored to be included by CSK due to Stephen Fleming in the squad as both played for same team in New Zealand.
