4 Batsmen who could hit Double Century in World Cup 2019

Until 2010, it was nothing more than a shock when we hear about batsmen scoring double centuries. In 2010, it was Sachin Tendulkar who broke the stereotype with striking 200 Not-Out in Gwalior against South Africa. Well, his record was broken soon by Virender Sehwag with 219 runs in 2011 against West Indies in Indore and this trend continued then. Rohit Sharma, Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Martin Guptill and Chris Gayle are the five players who have record of scoring double centuries in ODI.

T20 also changed the way Test and One Day International matches are played nowadays. A lot of modern batsmen play furiously and loves to score runs faster, despite the format.

The Cricket World Cup of 2019 will be played in Wales and England next year and batsmen will get the most of the batting-favorable conditions. Expect a couple of high scoring games to be played in the tournament. With that in mind, have a view on the top players who could hit double century in ICC World Cup 2019.

Rohit Sharma

It goes without saying that Rohit Sharma has excelled the art of scoring double centuries in ODIs. Pacing his innings is no brainer for him. The Mumbai-based 31-year-old batsman played 180 ODI matches for India and hit 6594 runs on 44.55 of average and 86.96 strike rate.

He is the only player in the world who has scored three double centuries in ODI matches. He scored 209 runs in 2013 at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore in 2013. In 2014, he again scored his double century (264) against Sri Lanka, the highest score in ODI till date.

He scored another double century (208*) recently in Mohali against Sri Lanka. Friendly conditions will help him in his strike rate and to increase tally of double hundreds as well.

Jason Roy

The 27-year-old is among the most destructive openers in the world these days. He scored 2242 runs in 61 ODIs at great strike rate of 103.89. He is a permanent fixture in ODI’s England setup and he will open the batting most likely with Jonny Bairstow in 2019.

Jonny Bairstow

He is an opener who is currently in the form in ODIs. He opens the batting in ODIs for England and is the highest run scorer in this year. The 28-year-old batsman has scored 773 runs in 14 ODIs this year at the strike rate of 121.54 and average of 55.21. He has hit one fifty and four hundreds in 2018. Evin Lewis

The 26-year-old Trinidadian is known to be the next hard-hitting legend of Caribbean cricket. He has played some great knocks representing West Indies. His 176* at the Oval against England was really great.

Lewis opens for West Indies in ODIs and he has been a great performer for the team these days. His 125* was just scintillating against India at Kingston in a T20I game. For West Indies, he has played 32 ODIs and scored over 1000 runs.
