3 Major Changes Mumbai Indians need to perform Better

Mumbai Indians is a defending champion this season. They were the favorites as most successful team in the competition and to defend the title as they managed to win the league in 2017. This season, Mumbai had a bad start as they lost the first match to Chennai Super Kings. However, to get their slide, they managed to defeat Bangalore as their first and only victory since the day when tournament started. This time, their performance is losing its pace eventually.

It’s time for Mumbai Indians to sort out the issues and get back into the form again, just like they did in 2015.

  1. Rohit Sharma as opener

Rohit Sharma is the heart and soul of Mumbai Indians. His form has always played an important role for the success of Mumbai. So, it’s time for him to take the bull by horns. Great captains always leave maximum number of balls behind for their best players. Being the best batsman in Mumbai and captain, Rohit Sharma has not done well to himself. Keeping Suryakumar Yadav at the top has not been enough for the team time and again.

To keep all other batsmen to play with him, he should open the innings. He is a very capable batsman but has issues to start against spin. He could get some runs using the powerplay even if teams start with spin.

  1. Using Spinners in Powerplay Overs

Rohit Sharma has not used spinners in powerplay like other captains. He chose to use fast bowlers in powerplay because his spinners don’t have enough experience. But Mumbai has the likes of Rahul Chahar and Mayank Markande who emerged as good spinners in recent matches. Spinners are very vital for the team. So, a captain should use them well.

The toppers on the IPL points table are the teams which use spinners in initial powerplay overs to pick as many wickets as possible so they can put a pressure on the rival from the beginning.

So, Mumbai should also do the same. They should play Chahar in playing XI and also bowl him in powerplay to get more wickets. They should learn from Chennai as they roped in three spinners and they have been very successful. On the other side, Mumbai has Krunal Pandya, who couldn’t bowl properly in this season.

  1. Include JP Duminy in Playing XI

JP Duminy is an international player who hasn’t got the chance to play a single game, despite being able to play at any position in batting order and having potential to be helpful to the surviving Mumbai team.

Keiron Pollard has been playing at 5th position and struggling hard. So, it’s time to let him bat in higher order or leave him out of Playing X1 at all, as he hasn’t managed to finish well.

Duminy has been a great finisher in his career. With the poor performance of Pandya brothers and Pollard in this season, it’s time to give Duminy a chance. It would also help him regain his form.
